Curb Report is built on top of public government data and permissively-licensed research data. We aggregate, transform, and score this data. We don't redistribute the raw sources.
We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of the organizations listed below. All trademarks and dataset names belong to their respective owners.
Real-estate research data
Used with attribution under each provider's research-data terms.
Home values + rents
Zillow Research data is provided for free for commercial and non-commercial use with attribution and a link back to zillow.com/research/data/.
Home sales + listing activity
Redfin Data Center publishes data publicly under terms that permit commercial use with attribution.
For-sale inventory + days on market
Realtor.com Research data is provided publicly with attribution required. Curb Report uses transformed aggregates rather than raw listing data.
Short-term rental listings (county-level rollups)
Inside Airbnb publishes Airbnb listing snapshots under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license (CC BY 4.0). We aggregate per-listing data into county-level statistics (active listings, median nightly rate, estimated revenue, gross yield) and do not redistribute individual listings.
Presidential election results by county
MIT EDSL publishes county-level results under terms that allow redistribution with attribution.
Eviction filing rates by county
Eviction Lab data is published under a Creative Commons Attribution license; Curb Report uses county-level filing rates with attribution.
Recent eviction filing rates by county
CCDI aggregate county data is free to use with attribution ("Civil Court Data Initiative. Legal Services Corporation"); Curb Report uses county-level filing rates only, never case-level records.
Household energy burden (county)
The DOE LEAD Tool dataset is published under CC BY 4.0; Curb Report attributes the 'DOE LEAD Tool' (U.S. Department of Energy / NREL) and surfaces county aggregates as an educational estimate.
Metro zoning restrictiveness index
The National Zoning and Land Use Database is released under the MIT License (commercial use permitted with attribution to Mleczko & Desmond / the Eviction Lab).
U.S. government open data
Works of the U.S. federal government are in the public domain (17 U.S.C. § 105).
Demographics + ACS variables + ZCTA boundaries
U.S. federal government works are not subject to copyright (17 U.S.C. § 105) and are in the public domain.
Property tax, commute, income, housing demographics
American Community Survey data is published by the U.S. Census Bureau and is public domain.

FRED is a service of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. Most FRED series originate from federal agencies and are public domain.

The FEMA National Risk Index quantifies community-level natural-hazard risk. Curb Report uses the composite and per-peril scores to peril-adjust its insurance estimate and carrying-cost score. Public domain.

OpenFEMA data is a U.S. government work in the public domain.
County violent + property crime rates (full-year reporters only)
FBI UCR data is a U.S. government work (public domain). Curb Report rolls agency-level Offenses Known counts (compiled by Jacob Kaplan, CC0) up to county, summing only agencies that reported a full year (no imputation) and omitting counties below 50% population coverage.
Mortgage denial rate, FHA/VA share, origination volume + size
HMDA aggregate data published by the CFPB / FFIEC is a U.S. government work in the public domain.
Job inflow ratio, net job inflow, high-wage job share
LEHD LODES is a U.S. Census Bureau product in the public domain. Curb Report rolls census-block workplace + residence counts up to county.
Community water systems with active health-based violations
EPA SDWIS / SDWA data is a U.S. government work in the public domain. County assignment is state-reported and surfaced as an estimate.
County health prevalence estimates (asthma, COPD, heart disease)
CDC PLACES data is a U.S. government work in the public domain.

Compiled factual data
Statutory tax rates and similar facts compiled by third parties. Facts are not subject to copyright (Feist v. Rural Telephone Service, 1991).
State transfer tax laws
Statutory tax rates compiled by NCSL are factual data sourced from state statutes (public records).
State tax rates + structure
Tax Foundation publishes annual compilations of state tax rates. We use the underlying factual rates (sourced from state statutes), and factual information is not subject to copyright (Feist v. Rural Telephone Service, 1991).
State-average homeowners insurance premiums
NAIC publishes aggregate insurance premium statistics annually. Curb Report uses the state-average values as a base layer for its insurance estimate where ZIP-level data is unavailable.
Curb Report Insight Scores
Composite scores such as Investment Score, Crash Risk, Tax Burden Score, and Livability Score are computed by Curb Report using the third-party data sources listed above as inputs. The scoring methodologies are proprietary; the underlying data is attributed to its source on every metric's detail card.
