Curb Report is built on top of public government data and permissively-licensed research data. We aggregate, transform, and score this data — we don't redistribute the raw sources.
We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of the organizations listed below. All trademarks and dataset names belong to their respective owners.
Real-estate research data
Used with attribution under each provider's research-data terms.
Home values + rents
Zillow Research data is provided for free for commercial and non-commercial use with attribution and a link back to zillow.com/research/data/.
Home sales + listing activity
Redfin Data Center publishes data publicly under terms that permit commercial use with attribution.
For-sale inventory + days on market
Realtor.com Research data is provided publicly with attribution required. Curb Report uses transformed aggregates rather than raw listing data.
Short-term rental listings (county-level rollups)
Inside Airbnb publishes Airbnb listing snapshots under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license (CC BY 4.0). We aggregate per-listing data into county-level statistics (active listings, median nightly rate, estimated revenue, gross yield) and do not redistribute individual listings.
Presidential election results by county
MIT EDSL publishes county-level results under terms that allow redistribution with attribution.
U.S. government open data
Works of the U.S. federal government are in the public domain (17 U.S.C. § 105).
Demographics + ACS variables + ZCTA boundaries
U.S. federal government works are not subject to copyright (17 U.S.C. § 105) and are in the public domain.
Property tax, commute, income, housing demographics
American Community Survey data is published by the U.S. Census Bureau and is public domain.
Building permits (county, monthly + annual)
Census BPS data is public domain.
Business establishments + employment
Census CBP data is public domain.
Mortgage rates + macroeconomic indicators
FRED is a service of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. Most FRED series originate from federal agencies and are public domain.
Unemployment + labor force
BLS publications and data are works of the U.S. government and are in the public domain.

State transfer tax laws
Statutory tax rates compiled by NCSL are factual data sourced from state statutes (public records).
State tax rates + structure
Tax Foundation publishes annual compilations of state tax rates. We use the underlying factual rates (sourced from state statutes) — factual information is not subject to copyright (Feist v. Rural Telephone Service, 1991).
Average homeowners insurance premiums by state
NAIC publishes aggregate insurance premium statistics annually. Curb Report uses the state-average values + our own computed metrics.
Curb Report Insight Scores
Composite scores such as Investment Score, Crash Risk, Tax Burden Score, and Livability Score are computed by Curb Report using the third-party data sources listed above as inputs. The scoring methodologies are proprietary; the underlying data is attributed to its source on every metric's detail card.
